Ugo La Pietra

Artist, architect, designer and researcher in the large area of communication systems, Ugo La Pietra developed since 1962 an activity tending to the clarification of the relationship “individual environment.”

In the sixties develops an intense experimental activity, which was embodied in the theories of the “System disequilibrante” an original and personal contribution to the European radical design. Communicates through his research works and exhibitions: invited to create experimental environments in 1968 at the Milan Triennale in 1972 and at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for the exhibition “Italy New Domestic Landscape”.
Has also been curator of Audiovisual at the Milan Triennale of 1981 and the exhibition “Cronografie” at the Venice Biennale of 1992; Of “Natural-Virtual” at the Milan Triennale of 1996.

He directed magazines in the field of design, art, habitat and design. Winner of the 1st prize at the International Film Festival of Nancy in 1975 and the Premio Compasso d’Oro in 1979, 2nd prize in the competition for the park Urbano former tobacco factory in Bologna in 1985 and selected for the 1st grade in the competition for the restructuring of the Columns of San Lorenzo in Milan.
Since 1985 he has organized exhibitions and seminars, bringing the culture of design within different craft areas. He has made more than 900 solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in Italy and abroad since 1962.

He has taught at the Faculty of Architecture of Milan, Pescara, Palermo, Turin, Venice, Milan, the Art Institute of Monza and ISIA in Faenza, the European Institute of Design in Milan Academy of Fine Arti di Brera in Milan. From 2000 to 2005 he headed the department “Artistic Design for the enterprise” at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera.
